Woodwork

Hand Tools

  • Sharp Edges.
  • Loose parts.
  • Blunt / worn parts.
  • Correctly stored
  • Protective equipment to be worn.

Band Saw

  • Set up correctly with right blade for the job.
  • Not making metal rubbing noises.
  • Safety guards in place.
  • Correct tension.
  • Band Saw set up.

Wood Lathe

  • All chisels in good working order and suitably stored.
  • Chucks, tailstock and rotating equipment in good condition and suitably stored.
  • Facemask to be worn.
  • Drive belts in good condition
  • Suitable speed set.
  • Tool rest correctly adjusted.

Planer Thicknesser and Bench Router

Drill Press (Wood Work)

  • When changing or removing bits from the chuck ALWAYS check that the chuck key has been removed before switching on.
  • Make sure items being drill are held securely. If necessary use a drill vice or clamps. 
  • ALWAYS wear protective eyewear.

Bench Grinder

  • Wheels not damaged.
  • Vibration free.
  • Guard in place.
  • Tool rest correctly adjusted.
  • Goggles must be worn.
  • Endeavour to wear the wheel evenly across.

Bench Saw


Electric Tools

  • Checked and suitable for use.
  • Free of damage.
  • Suitably stored
  • Moisture checked.
  • Switch off and unplug when not in use.
  • Protective equipment to be used.

Mitre Saw

  • Muffs on.
  • Dust extractor working.
  • Timber well held and supported.
  • Don't cross your hands.
  • Wait for saw to stop before clearing.

Metalwork

Metal lathes

  • Cutting tools suitable and in good condition.
  • Chuck and tailstock in good condition.
  • Speed and feed checked.
  • Job suitably secured.

Drill Press - (Metal Work)

  • When changing or removing bits from the chuck ALWAYS check that the chuck key has been removed before switching on.
  • Make sure items being drilled are securely held in a drill vice.
  • ALWAYS wear protective eyewear.

Welding

  • Use protective clothing and eyewear at all times. 
  • Use an isolating curtain to protect others.
  • Be aware of where your sparks are going.
  • Be aware of other Sheddies around you.

General

Grinding, Cutting and Wire Brushing

  • Use protective eyewear and ear protection at all times. 
  • Be aware of where your sparks are going. 
  • Be aware of other sheddies around you.

Painting

  • Wash brushes after use.
  • Put down drop cloths or protective coverings.
  • Be mindful of where the paint is going.

Compressor

  • Check the oil level in the crank case.
  • Make sure the pressure level is set at the regulator to suit your job.
  • Drain Pressure tank after use.
